Government doctors and medicos on Wednesday called off their strike following assurances from the government to provide Special Protection Force (SPF) cover at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) and Gandhi Hospital. Deputy Chief Minister T. Rajaiah and Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy held talks with the doctors, who went on a flash strike from Monday after doctors at Gandhi Hospital were attacked by relatives of a patient.
“We had fruitful talks with doctors and assured them that the accused will not be spared. Some assailants have already been arrested and few others who are absconding, will be caught. We will make arrangements to provide SPF protection to OGH and Gandhi Hospitals. We have decided to set up 50 CCTV cameras at Gandhi Hospital,” Dr. T. Rajaiah said. Home Minister N. Narasimha Reddy said that any kind of physical attack was condemnable.
“Very soon, we will hold a meeting with junior doctors in the presence of the Chief Minister to address their concerns. On their part, doctors too should not resort to boycott of services frequently,” he said. Junior doctors and Telangana Government Doctors Association, Gandhi unit pointed out that they only boycotted their electives duties. “Our members attended to emergency services,” TGDA, Gandhi unit, president P. Sravan Kumar said.
