DCC demands inquiry into development work in MCK

Alleges large-scale irregularities in the work taken up in town

District Congress Committee (DCC) president K. Mruthyunayam demanded that the State government order a vigilance inquiry into all the development work taken up during the TRS regime in the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) and prove its sincerity.

Alleging large-scale irregularities and unscientific execution of R&B roads, traffic islands and internal roads in the town, he charged that the work was taken up only to siphon off public funds, and demanded that the TRS leaders should release a white paper on their performance in MCK in the last five years.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said the TRS has not done anything great during its five-year tenure in the MCK except redesigning the projects that were started by the Congress government. Reminding that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao promised people that Karimnagar would be transformed on the lines of London and New York cities, he said that the Karimnagar town has turned from bad to worse with haphazard and unscientific work that has caused more destruction to the town.

He said the beautification of R&B roads was progressing at a snail’s pace since the last five years and the project does not include proper side drains, footpaths or dividers.

The TRS had promised 24x7 water supply in the town, but failed to provide even new tap connections to households, he said.

When there were more than 30,000 applicants for the double bedroom housing scheme, the TRS government constructed only 300 houses on the outskirts of the town, he said and claimed that the Congress had provided Indiramma houses to over 20,000 beneficiaries and Rajiv Gruhakalpa houses for several thousands.

Stating that the Congress would come back to power in MCK in the ensuing elections, he said the party would bring back Karimnagar’s past glory and expose all the misdeeds of the TRS government.
