Dalit family attacked over financial dispute

Youngsters who suffered injuries in the attack by 'upper'-caste people undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Keesara on Saturday.

Tension gripped Rampally village near Keesara on Friday night when upper caste people attacked a Dalit’s family in connection with a financial dispute.

At least six persons — one of them seriously — were injured.

Trouble broke out after a quarrel between Kalyan, a Dalit, and Rakesh over a financial dispute.

After Kalyan lodged a police complaint against Rakesh, village elders K. Anji Reddy and K. Srinivas Reddy along with their followers threatened Kalyan to withdraw the case registered against Rakesh. Kalyan, however, did not budge.

Angered over this, Anji Reddy, Srinivas Reddy and their followers entered Kalyan’s house late on Friday night and attacked members of his family with sticks and empty bottles.

Girl kicked?

They did not spare even a pregnant woman Mallika and reportedly kicked a four-year-old girl Bujji.

Fearing that the attackers would kill them, Kalyan’s family members took shelter in a nearby graveyard till Saturday morning.

ACP, Alwal, G. Ganesh Reddy said a case under Section 307 of IPC (attempt to murder) was registered against the accused and efforts were on to trace them.

The Dalit Sthree Sakthi, in a press release, condemned the incident at Keesara, and demanded action against those involved.
