Most of us read newspapers. But it takes a young mind to create art out of serious news. When asked to make collages of articles that appeared in The Hindu ’s school edition, more than 150 students from across the city painted canvases so rich one could guess the theme of the articles in a mere glance.
Be it a cricket pitch or concerns over the deteriorating environment, the young minds – students from classes six to 12 – pressed their creative instincts into the fast lane during the The Hindu in School Newspaper Collage Contest , held at the Primary Block of Gitanjali School, Begumpet, on Sunday.
Students from class six to nine were bracketed in the ‘junior’ category, and those from classes 10 to12 in the ‘senior’ category. The participants were those enrolled in the

While junior students had topics such as sports, environment, and science, seniors participated in competitions like
K. Sai Charmisha, a class nine student from FIITJEE World School, won the first prize, while Mariyam Fatima and Ayesha Fatima of Princess Esin Girls High School, Purani Haveli won second and third prizes respectively in the junior category. In the senior category, G. Bhanu Priya, a class 10 student of Geeta High School, Alwal bagged the first prize, and Trisha Kola and Anjali Sabat, class10 students from Gitanjali Devshala, Balamrai, stood second and third respectively.
Winners received prizes from B.P. Padala, Chairman, Roots Business School who was also the chief guest.
