While denizens were in for some respite from the rain on Wednesday, they still had to contend with pothole craters dotting all the main roads of the twin cities.
If this were not enough, the dry weather let loose dust and gravel, littering the air and hitting motorists smack on their faces.
Traffic police personnel also had quite a task on their hands, pushing vehicles through, what with each of them slowing down to a halt before each crater — a feature that has come to characterise the city.

“Driving through the road stretches is just akin to riding a camel,” N. Muralidhar, a bank employee observed.
With the recent death of an intermediate student, which was attributed to bad roads and slushy conditions, fresh in the minds of motorists, they preferred to drive carefully to avoid any mishaps.
Meanwhile, GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu has asked officials to do away with non-functional road cleaners and called for refurbishing the vehicles with fresh vacuum suction machines to clear the fine dust and gravel on the roads.

If the sweeping machines were found inefficient, it would be better to return to manual sweeping, he observed, calling upon zonal commissioners to ensure these machines passed the efficiency test. While minor road repairs will be carried out, re-carpeting needs a few days of dry weather, he added.
