The Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) on Friday expressed concern over the alleged illegal detention of Muslim youth by the Hyderabad Police and demanded that they be released immediately.
In a memorandum to Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma, the committee asked for an end to the “harassment” of Muslim youth and to the “illegal and unofficial” methods adopted by the police to investigate the Dilsukhnagar bomb blasts case.
Alleging that many educated Muslim youth had been illegally picked up by police and kept at undisclosed locations, the committee said anti-Muslim attitude is deep-rooted in the Hyderabad Police. Police who are taking advantage of the independence granted to them, the CLMC alleged.

The CLMC demanded that the probe be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) immediately, according to a press release issued by the CLMC general secretary, Lateef Mohammed Khan.
Appeal to DGP
In another statement, Mr. Khan extended his demand to the DGP and urged him to instruct the police not to harass Muslim youth. He said the Supreme Court had laid down specific guidelines in respect of arresting people and it was binding on part of police to follow them. Mr. Khan claimed that two youngsters Dyed Adnan and Zahid were being illegally detained by the police in Hyderabad.
