Constables foil bid to burgle DCCB bank

January 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Two constables foiled a bid to burgle the Hyderabad District Co-operative Central Bank (DCCB) at Ibrahimpatnam on Saturday night. The miscreants, however, managed to escape from the spot.

The constables, Ramakrishna and Bheem, who were on the night beat-duty, spotted a man loitering near the bank. On being questioned he started running.

The constables chased him for a distance, but suspecting something fishy rushed back to the bank to check the premises when they saw an Innova. On checking it, the duo found gas cutters, LPG cylinders and weapons inside the car and informed their superiors.

After being alerted, reinforcements from the Ibrahimpatnam and neighbouring police stations rushed to the spot. The police who inspected the bank premises found that the miscreants removed the window grill in the backside of the bank and gained entry.

“They were waiting for an opportunity to take the gas cutters and cylinders into the bank but could not succeed due to the presence of the policemen who arrived there. The unidentified man who ran from the spot was apparently keeping a watch on the movement of the police near the bank,” the official added.

Senior police officials visited the bank in the night. A hunt was launched to nab the miscreants. Police believe the gang members were also responsible for burglaries reported at different banks in the State last year.
