A 40-year-old college professor, a college student, a few labourers were among the 27 persons caught by Cyberabad ‘She’ teams in a special drive launched in newly identified spots against those harassing women in public places.
The professor working in a private engineering college was apprehended while uttering obscene words to a lady in Hayatnagar, and the college student was held based on a complaint received from a girl student of the same college and after recording the offence with help of a spy camera, DCP Malkajgiri R Rama Rajeshwari said.
Based on calls received from dial ‘100’ teams, the team caught five persons from ECIL bus stop and also a drunk person from Nagole Crossroads. Ten other offenders were caught in various locations in RTC bus stands in Keesara, Ghatkesar, LB Nagar, KPHB Colony, Bollarum Crossroads, IDPL Balanagar and Moula Ali.
Four labourers, two from the Raidurgam bus stop were nabbed for making obscene gestures, and another two from Cherlapally industrial area were also arrested by ‘She’ teams.
The special drive was taken up based on inputs given by citizens through Facebook page and also suggestions from the field ‘She’ teams, Ms. Rajeshwari said.
The Cyberabad police Facebook page was flooded with complaints of cyber stalking and the Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand called for prompt action on every complaint plus visible policing in ‘unsafe’ spots.
