City zoo receives tortoise pair from Seychelles

The pair of Al Dabra Giant Tortoise from Seychelles

The Nehru Zoological Park here has received a pair of Al Dabra Giant Tortoise from Seychelles as a gift from the island country’s President, Danny Faure who is on a visit to India.

Mr. Faure has brought them along with him, as gift to the President of India, and the Central Zoo Authority has permitted the Nehru Zoological Park to house them.

The 20-year-old tortoises, endemic to Seychelles, were brought to the city on Monday by the Chief Executive Officer, Botanical Gardens, Seychelles, Raymond A. Brioche. Zoo director Sidhanand Kukretty and curator Shivani Dogra accompanied Mr. Brioche on his tour of the zoo.
