City campuses witnessed protests against the arrest of Kanhaiah Kumar, president of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students’ union, here on Saturday.
While University of Hyderabad (UoH) Joint Action Committee for Social Justice issued a note condemning sedition charges slapped on Mr. Kumar, mild tension prevailed in Osmania University (OU) campus as Left and right-wing student groups clashed over the issue.
Students’ union of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) too condemned the ‘JNU crackdown’, even as it pledged solidarity with those ‘targeted’ by right-wing forces.

City police picked up 10 students to prevent untoward incidents on OU campus, even as UoH JAC claimed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) student activists attacked those touring the State as part of Justice for Rohith Vemula bus yatra dubbing them ‘anti-nationals’.
As per statement UoH JAC issued in Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda district, ABVP student activists disrupted the JAC’s public meeting and also attacked students. Students Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Federation (AISF) and Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) lodged a complaint against ABVP activists who allegedly attacked them for holding a solidarity meet against police action in JNU.
