Hectic preparations are underway for the Milad-un-Nabi celebrations on Friday, which marks the birthday of the Prophet.
Streets in the old city are being decorated with serial bulbs, banners, flags and buntings. Religious meetings and competitions have already begun and many more such events are lined up.
Cooks are in great demand with many organising food feeding camps.

“We welcome people of all religions to come and eat. It has always been a practice and it will continue to be so,” says Syed Naseer, a trader at Pathergatti market.
To mark the occasion, a procession will be organised from Charminar to Moghalpura on Friday. The procession, which is to end before Friday prayers, will see a participation of around 20,000.
Various religious and social organisations have also planned activities like blood donation camps, fruit distribution at hospitals, old age homes, orphanages and donation of blankets and clothes to the poor.

Mass marriage programmes for the poor have also been planned for the month.
What is gratifying is that it is mostly the youth who are planning such activities.
“The aim is to help the deprived and the needy by doing,” Azmathullah Baig, an undergraduate student said.
