Chaitanya complains of torture

S. Chaitanya Reddy, who was arrested on Wednesday on the charge of killing his wife, S. Kiran Reddy, was admitted to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) after he complained to the magistrate that the police had tortured him.

When the Jubilee Hills police presented him in the court of 17{+t}{+h} Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in the evening, the accused complained that the police used third degree methods, forcing him to admit to the murder. Responding to the complaint, the magistrate directed the Chanchalguda prison authorities to get Reddy checked by doctors.

More tests

“As per the court direction, we sent him to OGH for medical examination,” the Chanchalguda prison superintendent, K. Kesava Naidu, told The Hindu . After conducting tests, the doctors admitted the accused in the hospital. He required medical attention and some more tests need to be conducted, they said. Earlier, Reddy alleged at Jubilee Hills police station that police detained him illegally and subjected him to torture. He broke down on seeing his family members and relatives when he was brought out from the lock-up to be taken to the court.

Shouting at the top of his voice, Reddy said the policemen had stripped him and beat him up badly forcing him to admit to the killing of his wife. “I loved my wife and have no reason to kill her,” he said while his family members showed scars on his back alleging that the police used third degree methods.

Kin warned

Several family members and relatives of the accused gathered at the police station and tried to speak to him, pushing aside the policemen. Some of them even tried to manhandle the Inspector, Narsinga Rao, who warned them of serious action if they failed to leave the place.

Police registered a case under Section 353 (obstructing public servant from discharging duties) of Indian Penal Code against S. Devender Reddy, father of the accused, and others in this connection.
