The Cyberabad police on Monday said they will seek clarifications from the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) about the procedures related permissions to conduct paternity tests.
The clarifications are being sought after the CCMB authorities confirmed to the police that they had conducted paternity test following a requisition from a homeopathy doctor Ramesh. The doctor reportedly presented his blood samples and that of a newborn baby to confirm paternity of the latter.
Dr. Ramesh was accused of disowning the three-week-old baby girl born to his wife Yamuna showing the paternity test report from the CCMB. Based on a complaint lodged by his wife that he was harassing her showing the test report, the Saroornagar police registered a criminal case against him and arrested him on January 22. The police wrote to the CCMB to confirm if the test report was genuine since requests for such tests from private persons are not allowed. “A letter from the CCMB says Thanga Raju of the centre analysed the blood samples presented by Dr. Ramesh. However, we are writing back to them if they are empowered to entertain such requests,” LB Nagar ACP J. Amarender Reddy said.

He said it is yet to be ascertained if such institutes can conduct paternity tests without involving the police, he said.
