The city police arrested a cable operator on charges of using a webcam to film a woman while she was taking a bath at Singadikunta in Banjara Hills on Sunday.

T. Ravi Shankar Prasad (40) hailing from Tirupati came to the city two years ago and was working as a cable operator. Ten days ago, he rented a room in a building in which an elderly woman along with her 24-year-old daughter and a couple were staying. The three families have a common washroom. Prasad surreptitiously installed a web camera inside the washroom and connected it to his computer.

On Sunday evening, the 24-year-old woman went to use the washroom and noticed an unusual object in the corner of the wall. She pulled it out and realised it was a camera. She immediately informed her mother who alerted the neighbours. The neighbours pulled the wire only find that the camera was connected to the cable operator’s computer. They caught the operator, thrashed him and handed him over to the police.“We booked a case under Nirbhaya Act against the accused and arrested him,” said ACP (Banjara Hills) J. Ashok Kumar. He said the cable operator’s computer was also seized to verify whether the accused had stored any other files containing objectionable material.
