Feel tired to go purchase vegetables after a hectic work schedule in office? It's common practice for working professionals to realise that they need to replenish their stock of vegetables only after having returned home.

Most young professionals end up eating either junk food or visit a nearby restaurant as that it easier than going out and buying vegetables and then preparing them. But thanks to a new venture, these professionals can now place an online order for vegetables rather than settle for a pizza or burger.

What more, they can also avail discount for vegetables delivered at their doorstep. With this service provided by Sumedha Foods through a website - www.farmer2home.com, the working class can now develop a healthy diet pattern.

“Customers have to place a minimum order of Rs.300 to get the vegetables. A delivery boy then delivers the goods packed in polythene bags less than 40 microns thick,” explains Goverdhana Ramana Kumar, Sumedha Foods Managing Director. If an order is placed before 1.30 p.m., then delivery will be completed by 7.30 p.m.

Farm fresh

He says that if customers are not satisfied with any of the delivered goods, they can refuse the goods and pay cash for the remaining products. The company directly purchases vegetables from farmers at Shamshabad, Madannapet and Uppal markets and sells them to customers after washing them properly.

“As we directly get vegetables from farmers, we are able to give a discount to the customers,” says Mr. Kumar. The current cost of one kg tomatoes is between Rs.24 and Rs.25 but the online service sells it for just Rs.20. Fruits are bought from the Kothapet fruits market.

Since its inception three months ago, the website has been receiving orders from couples working in IT and ITES sector, central government institutions, banks and other organisations. Senior citizens, whose children stay abroad, too utilise this service by calling 040-3100 9782.

The service is provided to customers residing within 25 km from the service provider's office at Habsiguda.

The management also plans to develop its customer base at Ameerpet, Punjagutta, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills. Apart from vegetables, customers can also place orders for fruits, dry fruits, pickles, ‘masala' powders and ‘papads'.
