Citizens living in the newly formed 68 municipalities will henceforth be able to take building permissions online with the launch of Development Permission Management System (DPMS), by Director of Municipal Administration T.K. Sreedevi said on Monday.
Citizens can submit the required documents or clarifications online from any place without the need to visit to the municipal office and with DPMS in place, the head office at the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA) too will be in a position to monitor the number of applications received, pending applications if any and how they are being processed at each of the municipalities, explained Ms. Sreedevi after the launch.

DPMS will enable the applicants to know why their respective building permission has been rejected, it will also show whether the permissions have been granted in time and the reasons for the pending applications besides aiding the higher authorities to keep a tab on the best performing municipalities in this area. The DMA pointed out that DPMS will not only help officials monitor building permission applications effectively across ULBs but also improve transparency, ensure delivery of time-bound services to citizens. The online building permission system is already under implementation in 73 erstwhile ULBs and CDMA will be ‘handholding’ the new municipalities for about six months on the system before allowing them to handle it independently.
“Citizens can, however, upload building applications right away from any place and depending on the size and height of the plot/building it will be cleared at different levels with the multi-storied building plans of 15 metres and above height to be checked by the office of the Director of Town and Country Planning (DTCP),” she said.
The DMA reminded that the online system has been launched in a short span of time despite teething troubles, resource and staff crunch. DTCP Vidyadhar and other senior officers were present.
