Biryani, beer and car-lift-ing in tow

Gade Venkat Reddy would have certainly loved to have this scene in one of his film shoots. But little did the film coordinator realise that an unsuspecting woman would play out the reel life scene on him and take him for a ride.

All he did on Monday was to offer lift to an unidentified woman at KBR Park at Banjara Hills, which proved costly for him as she drove away his expensive Hyundai Accent car. What more, she even had Reddy eat out of her hands – literally at that – as the poor fellow even ordered biryani from a hotel and chilled beer for her.

A hunt has been launched for the woman after the victim, who works as coordinator for Telugu film shoots in the city, approached the Madhapur police on Tuesday.

It all started when Reddy was checking emails on his mobile phone at KBR Park on Monday evening when he saw a woman – her head covered in a scarf -- requesting the fast passing vehicle drivers for a lift.

“As Reddy watched her, she walked up to him and requested him if he can drop her at Kondapur,” Madhapur Inspector Narayana said, recalling the sequence of events. Reddy had no objection and voila, the woman plonked herself in the car seat.

As they headed towards Kondapur, the woman befriended Reddy asking his personal details and nature of the job.

“A little later, she asked if he would mind buying biryani for her. En route, Reddy bought biryani at a hotel. After some time, she even requested him to get her beer,” the Inspector said.

As they were reaching the Kothaguda junction, the stranger requested Reddy to get her some snacks to go with the beer. Reddy parked his car on the roadside and went to a nearby hotel. That’s when the ingenious woman drove away in the car.

Reddy came back only to see his car vanish and the woman too. The police registered a theft case. A lookout is on for the woman based on the descriptive particulars given by the victim.
