Attendance fraud: police may question college faculty

Published - November 23, 2018 10:40 pm IST - Hyderabad

Twenty-nine faculty members of Vivekananda Group of Institutions in Batasingaram of Hayathnagar are likely to be summoned by the Saidabad police for questioning in the fingerprints cloning case.

“Notices will be served on the faculty members whose cloned fingerprints were recovered. They will be questioned on their alleged complicity in the case,” said Saidabad inspector N Mohan Rao.

The police filed a petition in the Nampally court on Friday seeking custody of the arrested, Bomma Ramakrishna, P. Sriram Prasad and Poreddy Sudharshan Reddy, vice-principal of the Vivekananda Group of Institutions, for interrogation. Institution secretary Gopal Reddy is still at large.

The investigators suspect that the college management wanted to cheat the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), by not hiring permanent teaching faculty and showing cloned fingerprints as those of faculty.

“As they have to pay at least ₹ 50,000 to ₹60,000 salary per month, the management approached Ramakrishna, an assistant professor and a research scholar, who started the cloning of fingerprints,” the investigator said.
