At 14ºC, Friday gives city the shivers

MET officials have forecast that the temperatures would continue to remain between 14 and 15 degrees for the next two days, with fog during early hours

The city recorded the season’s lowest minimum temperature on Friday, measuring 14.1 degree Celsius, Met Department officials said. While the districts of north Telangana are under the grip of an intense cold wave – with temperatures hovering between 10 and 11 degree Celsius – minimum temperatures in Hyderabad and nearby Ranga Reddy district have remained between 14 and 15 degree Celsius.

MET officials have forecast that the temperatures would continue to remain between 14 and 15 degrees for the next two days, with fog during early hours. The minimum temperature in Hyderabad is four degrees less than normal.

Adilabad logs 11ºC

On Friday, Adilabad recorded its lowest in the seas-on at 11 degree Celsius, causing cold wave conditions in the district.

“The temperatures are dipping due to the cold dry North-Easterly winds that flow in the Telangana region. The temperatures in the Northern parts of the Country have started to fall and it has its influence here. The districts of north Telangana are under the grip of cold wave,” said Assistant Meteorologist, Hyderabad MET department, M. Narasimha Rao.

Usually, cold wave conditions prevail when the minimum temperatures are five degrees less than the normal temperatures, which is the case in the districts of north Telangana. “Generally, cold wave warning is given when the minimum temperatures are between 10 and 11 degrees accompanied with chilly conditions. At present, such conditions are prevalent only in north Telangana districts,” the MET official said.
