From a doctor to an associate medical professor to becoming the best all-round lady IPS probationer, it was a challenging journey for Amrita Duhan of Haryana.

Mother of a five-year-old boy, Amrita never thought she would get into the coveted Indian Police Service. “I finished my MD (pathology), began working as an assistant professor in a medical college and got promoted as an associate professor,” explained Ms. Amrita as a battery of reporters bombarded her with questions about her achievements here on Saturday.

Patiently answering each and every scribe during an interaction with the media persons at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Ms. Amrita exuded confidence that she would be equally successful as a police officer. “My brother Vinod Duhan, who got into IPS, persuaded me to enter the service and he inspired me to prepare for the civil services,” she explained.

Her mother Sarla Duhan is a professor in a medical college and her father worked with the Electricity Department while her husband is a doctor. Far from her family life and teaching career, training as an IPS probationer was a welcome change for her.

“It was exciting to learn about weapons, security tactics and vigorous physical exercise regime. I did my best in every discipline like I used to do earlier and success followed,” she said. She is the winner of the best all-round lady IPS probationer, best lady outdoor probationer and winner of a trophy for second best all-round probationer.

“Job satisfaction is another factor that drove me to prepare for civil services,” he said. Soon after completing engineering, he went to Delhi and prepared nearly for a year.
