A team of officials will be formed to study the admission process: Ganta. He said admission process in Tamil Nadu was one which was based on marks in intermediate.

Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Friday said the State government was looking at moving away from the traditional system of admissions into engineering and medical colleges based on EAMCET.

Speaking to mediapersons at Kadiri town, on the sidelines of the two-day tour of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Mr. Rao said the State government would soon be sending a team of officers to Tamil Nadu to study the admission process there so that a similar system could be implemented.

He said admission process in Tamil Nadu was one which was based on marks in intermediate and not on competitive exams such as EAMCET while the current system in the State was that while weightage would be given to the marks obtained in intermediate, the admissions were primarily based on ranking in EAMCET.

The team would be formed in this week itself and sent to Tamil Nadu soon,” he added.

Asked if the new proposal would be implemented from the current year itself, Mr. Rao said the government, while taking into account the fact that the EAMCET examination has already been held would explore the possibility of implementing the new admission process in the current year.

He, however, hastened to add that no decision on the matter has been taken yet and that it was only a thought process under discussion. On the other hand, he accused the Telangana government of taking random decisions detrimental to the future of thousands of students from across the State.

“It might not be inappropriate for us (Andhra Pradesh) to make our own arrangements for securing the interest of our students, notwithstanding the provision of having the admission process and the education sector as such common for the two states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana)," said the Minister.
