Anami Narayan Roy, former DGP of Maharashtra, assumed charge as Advisor to the Governor here on Tuesday.
A Raj Bhavan release said that during his 38 year-long career in the Indian Police Service, he held with distinction a range of assignments including most prestigious, challenging and sensitive ones both in Maharashtra and the Union Government.
He retired on May 31, 2010 as DGP. As DGP Maharashtra, he was the advisor to the State Government for internal security, law and order and crime administration. He also served as Commissioner of Police, Mumbai and won the sobriquet as the People’s Commissioner and evolved many instruments and schemes for making police services more accessible to citizens.

Mr. Roy’s scheme of inclusive policing for the poor slum dwellers ‘Slum Police Panchayat’ has been highly acclaimed and many of his initiatives were replicated in many cities in India and abroad. He was responsible for all operations matters in the elite Special Protection Group, the release added.
