Poor maintenance and sanitation at the nursing hostel of the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) came to light yet again after GHMC Additional Commissioner (Health and Sanitation) L. Vandan Kumar revealed that the living conditions and sanitation maintenance at the hostel were not up to the mark.
Further, the GHMC will soon issue a notice to the OGH Superintendent or RM seeking information about sanitation at the nursing hostel, he told reporters during the inspection at the hostel on Saturday.
Mr. Kumar, along with Zonal Commissioner (South Zone) N. Ravi Kumar and Chief Entomologist V. Venkatesh, inspected the hostel premises in the wake of the suspected dengue death of two nursing students.

Mr. Kumar said that the OGH had outsourced sanitation maintenance. After receiving information about the first death 15 days ago, the GHMC had sent teams for clearing garbage and to take up sanitation maintenance at the hostel.

He added that the existing building would be demolished to be replaced with a new building in the same location.

He also said that there was no dearth of men and material, and that the GHMC was prepared to send teams to keep up sanitation whenever there was a call for help.
On dengue, Mr. Kumar said that the GHMC had not yet received confirmation of the prevalence of the disease from the Institute of Preventive Medicine. The GHMC official further appealed to people to observe one day as dry day by emptying all water containers in their homes, as the mosquito that causes dengue grows in water in domestic and peri-domestic containers.
