Agriculture officials interact with ICRISAT scientists

District Collector Vasam Venkateswarlu called upon officials to create awareness among the farmers on the upcoming technologies in farm sector.

Mr. Venkateswarlu along with 140 officials of agriculture and others departments visited the International Crops Research Institute for Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) located at Patancheru on Wednesday and interacted with scientists.

M.M. Sharma of ICRISAT explained about the new varieties being developed in the institute, rain-fed farming, water conservation, techniques to increase the crop yield, polyhouse, nethouse, greenhouse, underground tanks, benefits of check dams and how the batter varieties of seed would improve the yield in dry lands.

Mr. Venkateswarlu said the programme was aimed at creating awareness among the officials who in turn would inform the farmers. Informing that out of the 2,34,484 hectares of farm land available in the district irrigation was available for only 48,450 hectares. He has suggested the officials to use the services of the ICRISAT.

District Agriculture Officer Narasimha Rao and others were present.
