Calls for probe into private college admissions

Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Junior Doctors Association staged a dharna in an attempt to obstruct PG medical counselling alleging that seats were being blocked by students from other states only to be vacated later for the benefit of private college managements.

In a statement here, the ABVP said private college managements had blocked the seats with top rankers from other states in the first phase of counselling and returned their certificates after taking the seats. This was only to facilitate those students in taking admission elsewhere so that they can vacate seats here. Such seats are not shown in the second phase of counselling and later transferred to the management quota, the ABVP alleged.

The managements are selling those seats to candidates for anywhere between ₹2 crore and ₹3 crore. This is leading to loss of seats for Telangana students, the ABVP alleged and demanded that the Government order an investigation immediately and take action.
