Abu Salem convicted in fake passport case

A special court for CBI cases here on Monday convicted extradited gangster Abu Salem in connection with the 2001 fake passport case. The quantum of punishment will be announced on November 28.

The court convicted Salem under different Sections of IPC for obtaining a passport under a fictitious name in 2001 from Kurnool district. CBI senior public prosecutor T. V. Ramana said Salem was found guilty and convicted of charges under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 419 (cheating by impersonation), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code.
