The Telangana government intends to distribute Christmas gifts to a lakh poor Christians, besides hosting a feast for them, in the run up to the festival on December 25.
A total of 200 locations will be identified across the city with the help of the corporators and the legislators concerned, for the distribution and the feast, Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan informed at a high level meeting with GHMC and Minority Welfare officials here on Tuesday.
A locality will be identified by the corporator for each division, and two locations per constituency will be identified by the corresponding MLA. A total of 500 gift packets will be distributed at each identified location on December 14. The packages will contain polyester trousers and shirt, a sari paired with a blouse piece, and a salwar kameez.

The Christmas feast to be conducted on December 18 will see distribution of food packets containing biryani, raitha, and sweets and cakes. Preference will be accorded to the poorest of the poor, the disabled, widows, orphans and HIV patients in the gift distribution.
Venues for the distribution and feast will be identified in consultation with corporators, MLAs and church representatives of the localities, a press statement informed.
The meeting was attended by GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and Deputy Mayor Fasiuddin, among others. Minority Welfare Secretary Umar Jaleel, Advisor Minority Welfare A.K.Khan, corporators and officials.
