The government has entrusted the work of preparing a detailed project report for vetting of alignment from Komarelli Mallanna Sagar to Singur reservoir as part of Pranahita-Chevella project to Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS).

Administrative approval for availing the consultancy services of WAPCOS for the purpose was given in the orders issued by Special Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi on Saturday. The government has also approved consultancy charges of Rs.2.72 crore, including service tax for the work.

The Mallannasagar balancing reservoir is a key component of Kaleshwaram project, the reengineered part of the Pranahita-Chevella project, with a storage capacity of 50 TMC ft water. Water from the reservoir could be drawn to Gandhamalla and Baswapur reservoirs in Nalgonda district for irrigation in Alair and Bhongir areas on one side and to Singur reservoir in Medak district on the other side with gravity flow. From Singur, water could be taken to Nizamsagar and Sriramsagar. - Special Correspondent
