Two persons die as rain wreaks havoc

Two persons died in separate incidents after they fell into overflowing nalas at Kushaiguda and Neredmet after an intense spell of shower wreaked havoc in several parts of the capital on Sunday night.

A 60-year-old person, P. Mukkanta, died after he took a fall in the overflowing nala at Kakatiya Nagar, Neredmet while returning home on his bicycle. His body was later traced in the nala at East Kakatiya Nagar, authorities informed.

In another rain related incident, the body of a 35-year-old person was found in a nala at Krishna Nagar in Kushaiguda.

The victim has been identified as Ravi of Moula Ali Housing Board colony.

Thanks to the intense spell of showers, low lying areas and several thoroughfares were inundated with knee deep water even as commuters had a tough time dealing with traffic gridlocks.

Traffic came to a standstill at important main roads including Ameerpet, Hi-tech city-Madhapur stretch , Raj Bhavan Road, Mettuguda-Rail Nilayam stretch and Kukatpally.

Power cuts due to rains at Malkajgiri and surrounding areas and massive traffic jam near Hi-tech city railway station were also reported. With no accompanying winds, very few reports of trees getting uprooted were reported till Sunday night.

The Hyderabad MET authorities, meanwhile, have forecasted that sporadic spells of showers will continue to lash parts of Telangana region in the next 48 hours.
