Boga Yadagiri, a poor weaver, is devastated. His wife Susheela is unconsolable. “My son had always dreamt of landing a plum job in a top company. He wanted to bail us all out of financial troubles. But we had never imagined he would take his life in the prime of his youth,” cried Yadagiri.
The couple’s son, Boga Sharavan Kumar (25), pursuing his M.Tech in IIT-Kharagpur, on Monday committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room. “Shravan had always spoken about finding the right match for his sister. He did not live to see his sister’s marriage,” Susheela said. His younger sister, Mamata, is pursuing her degree course in Rajupet mandal.
The shocked weavers’ family from Ragunathapuram village went numb after receiving the tragic news of death of their son. Due to severe financial constraints, two elder brothers – Srinivas and Tukaram -- dropped out of education and began helping their father with weaving. “We were firm on supporting Shravan’s education as he had been performing exceptionally well in studies since his childhood,” Tukaram pointed out, fighting hard to control his emotions.

A brilliant student from his school days, Shravan came second in the district in Class X. He earned a good rank in Eamcet and later cracked GATE to gain an entry into IIT. “He would have completed his course in another two months,” Srinivas said. Yadagiri recalled that his son was selected for a faculty position in IIIT-Basar but he had decided not to join.
