Several areas in the city experienced slight to moderate rainfall from the early hours of Sunday. Cloudy and windy weather conditions prevailed accompanied by the rain which lasted for a couple of hours.
In the last 24 hours, the rainfall recorded by Met department was 13.1 mm till Sunday noon. Areas affected by rains include Jubilee Hills, Begumpet, Madhapur, Secunderabad, Himayatnagar, Uppal and surrounding areas. There were lightenings and thunders that accompanied rain.
The weathermen had already sounded a thunderstorm alert for Telangana for the next few days due to southerly winds blowing from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. The sudden change in weather has brought in the much needed respite from the rising summer temperatures.

However, the sudden downpour also put the citizens to inconvenience. Motorists had a tough time commuting through some water-logged roads. Some localities also plunged into darkness due to power outages.
Some of the low-lying colonies in Secunderabad, Toli Chowki, Tarnaka parts of old city were inundated with rainwater forcing the residents to contact the local municipal officials for help.
“Due to the rain, the water level in my lane almost reached knee-length. Our apartment parking lot is filled with stranded water making it difficult for the owners to take out their vehicles,” said a young resident of Anand Nagar in Malkajgiri.

Residents also complained of clogged drains and open manholes spotted on the major stretches across the city.
