The stalemate over MMTS connectivity to the Shamshabad airport from Umdanagar continues notwithstanding SCR’s keenness to lay a track right up to the passenger terminal.
As part of MMTS phase II works, a new railway line was planned to be laid between the Shamshabad airport and Umdanagar railway station (6.4 km). After terse negotiations, the previous State government brokered an understanding between GMR and SCR to develop a railway station near the Haj terminal, about 2 km away from the domestic and international terminal.
After multiple rounds of discussions between RVNL and GMR, a location for the railway station was selected. Schematics were prepared and proposals were drawn up for land requisition for submission to the State government. RVNL also conducted field tests to determine track alignment.

However, works could not be grounded as the SCR decided that the terminus should be located close to the passenger terminal. SCR GM P. K. Srivastava announced earlier this year that railway passengers should be able to alight at the terminal without the hassle of changing transport. As per earlier plans, buses would ferry passengers from the proposed railway station to the passenger terminal.
GMR is yet to give its nod to the proposal even as SCR seeks to push its stand through the Telangana government.
