It’s not just men in their 20s or 30s who are sexually harassing women by passing lewd comments in public places.

Even those who are above 50-60 years of age are indulging in such acts and one of the persons caught by the SHE teams was aged about 68 years!

Since the launch of SHE teams in Hyderabad three months ago, 113 persons have been caught for harassing women, said Hyderabad Additional Police Commissioner (Crimes), Swati Lakra, on Friday.

They were counselled in the presence of their parents at the ChildLine Centre by police officials and professional counsellors. Ten of the remaining persons were sentenced to two to three days of jail term. All the others were imposed with fine of Rs. 50 each. Majority of those caught were between the age group of 17 and 45.

Ms. Lakra released posters containing information about SHE teams as part of the campaign against sexual harassment at public places.

She said the police had visited 45 colleges for women where such instances were reported and persuaded them to approach police.
