Police seek chopper for anti-Maoist operations

May 12, 2010 02:59 pm | Updated 02:59 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The government is favourably inclined to the proposal for providing a helicopter to the State police for use in anti-naxalite operations.

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah will address a letter to Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, requesting for allotment of a helicopter. This followed a plea by Director-General of Police R. Girish Kumar during a review of the law & order situation here on Tuesday.

Home Minister P. Sabitha Reddy later told reporters that once a helicopter was available, the police would be able to immediately reach the spot by air where the Maoists were sighted and take action.

She said it was also decided to develop interior roads in Visakhapatnam district as any effective anti-naxalite operations would require good communication.
