If the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has its way, KBR National Park will become the biggest rotary of the city. The civic body has mooted the proposal of having one-way traffic around the park in Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills to ease flow of traffic.
As per the plan, the traffic will flow clock-wise on the 5-kilometre road which has multiple junctions and traffic signals. Though the Hyderabad Traffic Police is tight-lipped about the date or duration of trial-run, the GHMC Mayor has said the experiment will begin soon.
“The trial run will take place in a couple of days as the study is still under way. The one-way rule might be imposed for two or three days after which we will know the problem areas. If there is any need for sharp turns or junctions to be rectified for the one-way road, then we will do it. Our guess is that moving traffic is better than waiting at junctions or crossing rotaries, as the time consumed will be more or less the same. Motorists will be less exposed to pollution this way. If it is successful, then the route will be permanently made one-way,” said Mayor Bonthu Ramohan.

Mr. Ramohan said that this move is being taken to tackle high traffic volume till the SRDP (Strategic Road development Plan) is executed and multi-level flyovers are constructed in the area.
The administration is also looking at initiating similar one-way traffic trial runs in Secunderabad and other busy roads in the city. According to civic officials, the idea is to introduce the citizens to one-way traffic like in Delhi in the next couple of months.
