An elderly man on the way to Shamshabad international airport to see off his son who was going abroad, was killed when an i20 car crashed into the Qualis vehicle he was in. The car coming at high speed crashed into the median before jumping over and hitting the Qualis vehicle on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Medchal on Wednesday.
Death was instant for Ismail while nine other members of his family, along with his son and daughter-in-law, sustained injuries in the accident. The legs of Talluri Venkatesh, 38, who was driving the i20 car, were broken due to the impact. He managed to escape even as the car caught fire within seconds of the collision and got completely gutted eventually.
Venkatesh was coming from Gachibowli and going towards Medchal when the accident occurred nearer to the toll gate around 3 p.m. “He was apparently driving at a high speed and lost control of the car. The car first hit the median before it got flung into the air,” Medchal Inspector Shashank Reddy said.

The car landed on the other side of the divider and rammed the oncoming Qualis heading for Gachibowli from the Medchal side. Ismail, who was sitting beside the driver, was severely wounded and died. The condition of the Qualis driver and two other children, injured in the accident, was critical.
