They hail from engineering stream, but they topped the Integrated Common Entrance Test (I-CET 2010) for admissions into business management and computer application courses.

A. Sai Praveen and A.S. Bharadwaj, students of Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM), Visakhapatnam, bagged the first and second ranks respectively in the ICET results that were announced on Monday.

“Switching from a technical background to management may be difficult, but its all about perseverance and commitment to achieve your goal that counts,” said a confident Sai Praveen.

Technical knowledge

Though his plans are to make a career in the management field, Sai Praveen also wanted to attain technical knowledge. “I did engineering to have sound knowledge about technical aspects. Today, the industry looks for candidates who are multi-skilled and it's an advantage to have both managerial and technical skills,” says Sai Praveen.

But the journey to the top was not easy. “I worked on the basic concepts and attended a lot of mock tests held by TIME institute. The mentors were supportive and helped students who found certain sections of the tests difficult,” says Bharadwaj, who pursued Computer Science at GITAM.

However, both students are planning to take up courses outside the State. While A. Sai Praveen is all set to join Indian Institute of Foreign Trade to pursue MBA in International Business, A.S. Bharadwaj has enrolled in Institute of Management Technology at Ghaziabad.
