The Gangadevipalli village Geesukonda mandal of Warangal district shot into national news for the second time in less than 10 days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the village for practically demonstrating the importance of cleanliness to an official delegation comprising officials of both the Central and State Governments.

The delegation headed by Mr. Iyer gave practical demonstration to residents of Gangadevipalli with the Secretary himself entering into a soak pit and removing the accumulated waste that was already converted to NPK - rich fertiliser.

Mr. Iyer was in Hyderabad along with officials from Governments of several other States to attend a training programme in the National Institute of Rural Development and the delegation went to Gangadevipalli village for a hands-on experience on the Swachh Mission.

“This (the training) was not confined to having just a closed-door seminar, but the importance of cleanliness was practically demonstrated at Warangal in Telangana,” Mr. Modi said.

The visit on February 19 was preceded by toilet pit emptying exercise in Hyderabad where toilet pits in six houses were emptied and cleaned and the officers personally demonstrated that the used up pits could be emptied and re-used.

They also displayed as to how convenient these new technique toilets were and there was absolutely no inconvenience or hesitation in emptying or cleaning these toilets.

“Even the psychological barrier does not come in the way at all,” the Prime Minister said.
