After a brief lull, the GHMC is once again embarking on a mission to start sealing illegal buildings which are yet to complete the Building Regularisation Scheme (BPS) formalities from tomorrow. “We will start sealing illegal buildings in all the five zones,” said Additional Commissioner (Planning & Projects) K. Dhananjaya Reddy on Monday. He pointed out that there is time till Aug.15 for the BPS applicants to pay the pending penal fees and submit requisite documents like the structural stability and others to obtain the clearance certificate. Accepting that there was some delay in various circle offices in clearing the submitted applications which are in full and can be cleared without any issues, Mr. Reddy said special ‘melas' are being conducted on Aug.6 and 7 in all these offices to clear them on the spot.
There has been considerable progress in clearing the pending applications so much so that at least one crore rupees of penal fee was being collected each day for the last one month from all the circles. If the total applications received for the scheme was 2, 03,896, about 1, 67,785 were eligible for clearance of which 1, 09,658 were cleared till middle of last month.
It also leaves more than 55,000 applications still to be cleared. Thus far, GHMC had garnered close to Rs. 300 crore and final estimate is that little more than Rs. 545 crore is to be collected.

LRS
The going has been good as far as the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) is concerned with 55,730 of the 75,177 applications received have been disposed netting Rs. 278.73 crore. About 19,447 applications are yet to be cleared though the scheme is operational till the year end.
