Exam for district judge’s posts goes off smoothly

The written examination for the district judge’s posts went off well in Hyderabad on Sunday, as police foiled the attempt of Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) to disrupt it and took 16 lawyers into custody.

Elaborate security arrangements were made for the smooth conduct of the district judges recruitment exam, and police had also issued orders banning gathering in large numbers within the limits of Begumbazar Police Station here.

JAC had demanded postponement of the exam till the Telangana was granted statehood.

“The exams were conducted peacefully and no protester reached near the centre. We took into custody 16 lawyers who were protesting and who blocked traffic,” Central Zone DCP, Akun Sabharwal, told PTI. The turn-out for the exam was 67 per cent, he said.

Earlier, a group of pro-Telangana lawyers held a demonstration near Abids here against the exam, alleging discrimination against candidates from Telangana in the appointments to the judiciary.

“In 2009, only one candidate from Telangana was selected for the district judge’s posts while 10 posts went to those hailing from Andhra region,” Telangana Advocates JAC leader Sriranga Rao said.
