Students of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) on Friday unveiled a month-long programme to protest the rustication of three students. The students, under the banner of the Students’ Forum for Justice, will hold a ‘Maha dharna’ at Indira Park on June 4, and a ‘Chalo Assembly’ rally on June 18.

In a meeting attended by student organisations to discuss their future course of action, the students said a round table conference with political parties would be held on May 31. The students also demanded that rustication as a form of punishment be removed completely from the universities.

They insisted that the BSF and CRPF personnel, who provide security to the campus be removed and normality restored. Student leaders demanded that the rustication of the three students be immediately cancelled. Marking the growing rate of suicides in universities, especially of students from marginalised sections, the committee noted that proper judicial inquiry should be taken up in each case and criminal cases should be filed against those guilty, a press release said.

TJAC chairperson Kodandaram, ex-MLC Chukka Ramaiyya, professors P.L. Vishweswara Rao (OU), Laxminarayana (HCU), Y.K. Ratnam (HCU), TNGOs president Deviprasad, secretary Ravinder Reddy, journalist Mallepally Laxmaiyya and others participated in the meeting.
