Durgam Cheruvu cleaning works begin

Volunteers of the Art of Living have taken up Durgam Cheruvu lake cleaning work at Madhapur on Tuesday.

Around 250 volunteers of Art of Living and other organisations took part in the community initiative and cleared the debris, plastic covers and weeds.

Students from ICFAI University and BITS Pilani too participated in the programme.

GHMC has provided baskets, spades and other equipment for solid waste collection.

Plea to IT companies

“We request the locals to keep the environs abutting the lake clean. We also urge the IT companies in and around the Hi Tec City to participate in the initiative taken up by the voluntary organizations to keep the lake clean,” Venkatachalam, a senior committee member of The Art of Living, said.

After the advent of IT companies around the area, the lake was dumped with filth by those frequenting the place.
