Cyber fraudsters trick senior citizen, steal ₹ 1 lakh

Retired employee unwittingly reveals debit/credit card details

Cyber fraudsters stole as much as ₹1 lakh from three different accounts of a senior citizen on January 30. The complainant Syed Towheed Jafer (65), a retired employee, lost money through different transactions, which the scamsters did after fraudulently obtaining his debit/credit card details.

According to Mr. Jafer’s complaint, lodged with the Cyber Crime Department, he received different calls from persons who claimed to be from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and were calling for official bank work. The complainant unknowingly gave them his card details. After that, the fraudsters used the money in his account by convincing him to give it to them, stating that it was part of the process.

She Teams officials arrested and booked a petty case against two college students for harassing a 21-year-old woman. The accused Nithish Kumar (21) and V. Kishan were sending indecent messages on Whatsapp to the complainant, after which she approached the police.

Woman dies in accident

A 67-year-old woman died in a road accident on Wednesday when a lorry hit the two-wheeler, on which she was travelling, from behind. The deceased P. Chandradevi was returning home along with her husband after attending a function. Her head was crushed under the lorry’s wheels in the accident. Her husband Gopala Krishnamurthy sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.
