Despite barely having time between the last Ganesh idol immersed in Hussainsagar Lake (around 4 p.m. on Sunday) and the Telangana March, which was to begin on Necklace Road, the GHMC managed to mop up the garbage across the procession routes on Sunday.

The work, which used extra men and machinery, began at 3.30 a.m. and went on till 5.30 p.m., when the police wanted them to clear off.

About 700 metric tonnes of additional waste, along with the daily generated garbage of 3,300 metric tonne was lifted, said Additional Commissioner (Health & Sanitation) L. Vandan Kumar.

“Although we could not do fine sweeping due to time constraints, we managed to pick up all the litter on the roads and the sides,” he explained.

Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu also inspected NTR Marg and Tank Bund to oversee arrangements and the work being done.
