A criminal case was registered against TRS Member of Parliament K. Kavitha by Madannapet police of Hyderabad, following the direction of a local court in connection with the alleged remarks she made on Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana States not being part of the country earlier.

BJP files petition

A petition was filed against Ms. Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, by the BJP city legal cell convenor and lawyer, K. Karuna Sagar, in a court here on July 30 seeking registration of case against her on the matter. The Seventh Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court had referred the petition to Madannapet police on August 5.

Police invoked Sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race ..) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of Indian Penal Code against the MP.

Mr. Karuna Sagar stated that he would stand by his argument that Ms. Kavitha’s statement in an interview to a media organisation that Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana States were not part of India in the past was against the national interest.

In his petition, the lawyer stated that the MP’s remarks encouraged separatist organisations and terrorists backed by Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), who waged war against India.
