CWC launches website on Krishna-Godavari basin

February 25, 2011 08:51 pm | Updated 08:51 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Chairman of the Central Water Commission (CWC) A.K. Bajaj launched the bilingual website of Krishna and Godavari Basin Organisation (KGBO), a field unit of the CWC, here on Friday. It will enable all stakeholders and public direct access to the information on flood situation and flood forecast in the two basins.

Speaking after launching the website www.kgbo-cwc.ap.nic.in, Mr. Bajaj said water is becoming a scare resource due to the increasing demands and the fresh water reserves are severely strained. Water could no longer be taken for granted in future. Educating people is essential to address the scarcity of water, he felt.

S. K. Joshi, Principal Secretary (Projects), said sustainable utilisation of water resources in the Krishna-Godavari basin is vital to water needs in the region. He suggested the CWC to maintain the KGBO website as dynamic site by making timely changes in the information.

Apart from providing all related information on water resources in the region, the KGBO website would be made most user-friendly and they are planning to keep the tender notices too on it in future, Chief Engineer of CWC and KGBO V.N. Wakpanjar said.

State Informatics Officer of NIC B.V. Sarma said they are building secured e-governance and information projects to all government departments. Of the 600 websites maintained by them here, 500 belong to the State government and its district machineries, he explained.
