The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has threatened to intensify its ongoing indefinite hunger strike if the government failed to concede its demand for addressing the civic issues immediately.
Members of the CITU, Praja Natya Mandali, Awaaz and Greater Hyderabad Residential Forum are already on a hunger strike for the last three days at GHMC head office and eight other municipal offices. “We will now picket the government offices and mobilise crowds if the peoples problems are not attended to immediately”, warned S. Narasimha Reddy, president, CITU, Aruna Jyothi (AIDWA) and S. Sahdev of Greater Hyderabad Residential Forum.
They told presspersons here on Sunday that several problems facing the people were identified during a survey done in September. To highlight the issues a relay hunger strike was done from October 1 to 6 and from October 8 indefinite hunger strike was launched.

Poor water supply remained a major problem in most localities. Areas like Malkajgiri, Alwal and Maula Ali were getting supplies twice a week while low pressure plagued Musheerabad, Amberpet, Himayatnaga and L.B. Nagar localities. The problem was worse in slums, Mr. Reddy said.
