Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal has submitted a detailed report to the Election Commission (EC) for conduct of byelections to Pulivendula Assembly and Kadapa Lok Sabha seats that fell vacant following resignations by Y.S. Vijayalakshmi and Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy respectively.
The EC is expected to take a decision on the dates for the purpose after assessing whether necessary atmosphere is existing in the areas for conduct of a peaceful and fair elections.
Bhanwarlal, however, said he did not suggest any specific dates to the EC for the bypolls and it was EC which would take the decision on the matter. Ms. Vijayalakshmi and Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy had resigned on December 8 and so, the elections to the two seats would have to be held before June 8, the outer time-limit of the prescribed six-month time.

He told the media here on Friday that all the 18.16 lakh voters in Kadapa district incidentally came under the coverage of elector photo identity cards (EPIC) following efforts by EC. The same achievement was made in Anantapur, Chittoor, Nellore, Nizamabad, Hyderabad (Urban), Krishna, West Godavari and Karimnagar districts too.
He said following fresh enrolments, the number of registered voters in the State had reached 5.71 crore.
He appealed to the eligible voters still left out to enrol themselves at any of the designated locations, including 66,000 booth level officers and 16,000 post-offices in the State
