“Use of force or rough behaviour will not help in control of crime or maintaining law and order. One needs to have good public relations to achieve it,” said Hyderabad City Police Commissioner P. Mahendar Reddy on Monday.
The city police, as part of its image makeover exercise, launched a two-day orientation programme ‘Role of Police in Improving Police Community Relations’ for its officials at the City Police Training Institute, Petlaburj and Mr. Reddy inaugurated it. A total of 7,144 police officials from Sub-Inspectors to constable of City Security Wing, City Armed Reserve and civil police will attend the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Reddy asked the police officials to be courteous and cooperative with the visitors to police stations. He reminded the police officials that they get their salaries from the taxes paid by the general public and it is their duty to safeguard them. “We can get good results only if the existing gap between public and police is bridged. Only good behaviour and approach can do it,” he said.

The Commissioner asked officials to regularly interact with public and take their help in prevention and detection of crime. Moreover, it will also help in establishment of a safe, secure and stable society, he said.

Objective: To improve the image of the police and make them easily accessible.
What it means: Policemen drawn from CSW, CAR and Civil Police to be trained in building community relations.
Classes will be conducted in different batches for personnel on recording and redressing grievances, role of reception centres, time management, good behaviour, stress management and other modules.
Faculty from Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA), senior police officials from different wings, public prosecutors will give guest lectures.
