Arrests made in AP hooch deaths: Minister

Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Minister Bothsa Satayararayana said the prime accused of manufacturing illicit liquor, that claimed 13 lives in the district, was arrested along with five others.

The minister told a press conference that prime accused P. Ramakrishna along with his accomplices identified as R. Ravi, Veerababu, Ravi Kumar, P. Ramesh, G. Raghuluvu were arrested by the district police on the charges of murder.

According to first information report the excess methyl alcohol in the hooch resulted into the deaths of 13 persons who consumed it, he said.

The district collector has recommended that the State Government suspended Amalapuram excise circle inspector and sub-inspector for dereliction in duty, the minister said.

“Our priority is to cure affected persons in the district, then only we will decide the future course of action for sanctioning exgratia to the kins of deceased,” Mr. Satayararayana said when asked about ex-gratia payments.

A total of 13 persons died after consuming ‘illicit’ liquor in Amalapuram and Ambajipeta mandals of East Godavari district on Sunday night.
